Always Glad You Came

This is too adorable for my poor heart to take. I'm not even into ship-fics, but I loved this so much. Teenage super-hero romances are too cute for words, like this was so innocent and fluffy and finally both of them get to have someone they can just be themselves with. Peter is actually the sappiest dork to ever exist and Johnny's crush had me giggling and hiding my face in my hands as I read. And the little touches of angstier stuff made the whole fic feel grounded and real. My heart aches to think about fifteen-year-old Petey having to deal with the constant abuse he gets from his city while also doing absolutely everything he can to protect it, even if that means finger-less gloves over bruised knuckles and secrets that only make his life harder. I loved the part when the Four (or 3/4 of the Four) figured out that Spidey is actually younger than Johnny. Peter seemed terrified and Johnny was doing everything to protect him and then everyone's guilt over the way they treated Spidey (especially Ben after he caused the bruises around his throat). It was all too much for me in a wonderful, amazing way. Teenage!SpideyTorch was not something I was expecting to enjoy this much, but I really, really did.

I love this. The relationship between Johnny and Peter Parker was really sweet. When Johnny was fanboying over Spidey it made me think about awesome Spider-Man's abilities are. I would love to see more of this universe or of you writing more romance in general :)

This is is so sweet and wonderful! I definitely had my face in my hands half the time, sighing. I loved Johnny's initial awe and how Peter slowly warmed to him, and their playfighting and bickering was perfect and adorable. I also loved the rest of the Four's totally understandable concern and the shift in their feelings when they discovered the truth - protectiveness is one of those things I love but am usually leery on because it can go weird directions, but this was so organic! ♥ That last scene is so sweet, too. I love the descriptions of Peter's room. What a wonderful fic!

Oh man oh man. I also love teenage spidey & torch, so needless to say, I was excited when my favourite spiderman writer posted something with them in. And indeed, all the silly and cute moments throughout had me grinning like a loon. Sue looks as though her entire world view is being reconstructed. She’s staring at Spidey in the same way Johnny’s seen her stare at the especially cute children that waddle around the local parks. Like she wants to snatch them up and keep them. Protect them. “Reed,” she whispers, tugging on her husband’s arm, “I was wrong. I was so, so wrong; they’re perfect together.” I love it, haha.

I LOVE THIS. And would love to see more?

This is the first spideytorch I've read I always thought Johnny was a teen or just out of it honestly X3 this is so cute and their sarcasm clicks so well together

This is so adorable. So completely and utterly adorable. I just. So dang cute. Okay so I love how you set this up as the Four were kind of skeptical about Spider-man and their skepticism only increased as Johnny's crush increased. Like, maybe in the beginning they might have given him a chance even though they were cautious but then their viewpoint of him snowballed downhill every day with Johnny's gigantic crush on an "older unknown adult vigilante" And Spider-man isn't Spider-boy or Spider-teen, so obviously they assumed that he was older. I love the idea of that so much. Plus, protective Fantastic Four is sooo good yessss. I love that Ben was the one to actually attack Peter because a: he's the most physically intimidating b: he's so protective of Johnny even though he acts like he can't stand Johnny - and I love it c: It gave time for Sue to step back and kind of assess instead of being the one who's overprotective I love how gloriously lighthearted and cute this story was and then all of a sudden that scene was in there like Peter baby are you okay? It was magical. Which. That breakfast after is the best thing because it must be so awkward and yet so great at the same time for Peter. All the lingering adrenaline is still kinda there, but he's also relieved because they finally seem to accept him - which makes him feel odd because what. And the Peter reveals his face scene is so great. Johnny tells him that Peter has a shrine; and Peter's like, "Excuse you, this lamp is Black Widow." Peter loves nearly all the superheroes, not just The Human Torch, and it's so great. (And I'm screaming because he might have earlier had a dorky science crush on Reed Richards and Sue yesssss) (And I noticed how fluffy Peter's hair was in that scene, and my thought was immediately, "Oh there's aloneintherain's love for fluffy haired Peter") Oh! Also, when Johnny says to Peter "But you're a hero!" It really struck me because Peter usually fights alone, but people think that he can handle it and he'll be fine. He's a hero. He's a vigilante. Whatever he is - he's strong enough to do so on his own. But Peter has no one to rely on and no one to call for help and I just. The perception of Spider-man not needing any help because "he works alone" might keep people from helping him. And the assumption that he's good enough, strong enough might also keep people from helping him. (Which makes it only that much harder for Peter to ask for help because he has to admit that he isn't) I don't know; I just had sudden feelings about this when I read that part. Anyways, this has been a terribly incoherent rambling of how much I adored this story. It's extremely cute. Thanks for writing.

First off, NEVER be sorry for stories that turn out to be longer than you planned. The more the better, especially from you! :DLove this, and it's interesting to read about a NYC that doesn't quite like Spidey yet.This was so cute and so fantastic to read! Thank you for another spectacular story!

SO first of all hi, huge fan, 10/10 would recommend ALL your fics on Oprah. thats a fact because who wouldn't. your spidey is the best spidey, he's lovable and fun, but he has depth too - there is always more to his character in all of your works and I just love it. I'm serious, the way you have him interact with other characters is just so easy and accurate and I never even wonder for a second whether it's actual canon: your fics are basically my reference point with regards to the mcu and life. I'm like, "hmm, college, how do I deal? WHAT would aloneintherain's spidey do? thats right! Something selfless! *throws friend into traffic so they can enjoy the pleasures of health insurance* no just kidding lol. or am i?And your angsttt. Your angst dude. You got me talking like I'm a frat bro. There are always these interesting conflicts going on: crushes, the media, F4 thinking peter is like 47. I like your take on them, and how everyone plays their part into making it a wholesome story. And while you let the seriousness of it shine through and while it is "so sad noo" on occasion its never a drag to read. Thats might be your writing style though: comfortable and inviting, and then compelling and entertaining. The way you wrote them as teens was just so perfect and adorable. It's so how I imagine them both to be! They're still kiddos, but they're also obviously shaped by the unusual lives they live. Just... hold me please. I feel like the F4 will actually roll peter into a blanket burrito when they find out about his tragic backstory. And their reaction to the media constantly taking the piss on him will probably be the same. And also, everyone thinks Peter is an adult? Imagine him dealing with unknowning grownups that hit on him. While he's actually... 15. Yikes. Anyway, I was basically writing ode to you. Yeah, this is one of my favorite johnny/peter and f4&peter fics. *kanye voice* of all time. Of all time!!Your portrayal of their dynamics just really appeals to me, and I'm praying you'll write more of it someday. oh my god that was totally adorable! I loved the puppy love and the how protective Sue, Ben and Reed were of Johnny. But also how Johnny and Spidey became friends, and then more (their bickering was AMAZING), and the guilt when the rest of the 4 realized they had judged without really having the facts. This was amazing, thank you!

Aaaah I love love love this. Teenage SpideyTorch romance is the cutest dynamic and you write them so well. I couldn't stop coo-ing at the line: “Give up the identity, webs. This is so freaking cute. Seriously. Teenage Spideytorch has been one of my favorite ships ever since I read Ultimate, and getting to read stuff with fluffy happy boyfriend antics and just Johnny and Peter being adorkable nerdy fanboys together...it's just what I needed with finals coming up.Definitely things got angsty and a bit scary in a few places, but the adults are genuinely apologetic and while what they did while assuming Peter was an adult too is still not okay, I can understand their reasoning. It might take a long time for Peter to really trust them all after everything else and his general list of issues, but the potential to heal and grow closer is there and they're already getting protective and supportive of poor baby Spidey, which bodes well for the future.

For the fucking love of God, make this a series and do more teenage!Peter/teenage!Johnny.

ONLY EXPLANATION I SHALL ACCEPT. For real though I've followed many of your Spidey fanfics and love them to death, and like you I much prefer teen!Peter and I don't have a pairing preference for him. Yet this fanfic really made the pairing work well for them, I still don't ship them but hey, a good fic is a good fic. I love the writing and plot for this one shot, and damn. Another phenomenal fic! I totally agree on the thing about Peter's age. Especially after seeing Civil War. He's the most ridiculous, adorkable baby superhero. A couple of minor grammar notes though:1) “La-la-la! I can’t hear my sister talking about other hero’s asses!”-- I'd write this as "other heroes' asses" considering there's more than one ass, presumably there's also more than one hero?2) spider-Man regards him with those unnerving googled eyes-- I think you mean "goggled" eyes?Thanks for posting!

I sincerely hope you keep writing. I really enjoy misunderstanding fics, but it's important to capture how the misunderstanding occurs from all sides. This was also one of the first times I've read something about spiderman where he isn't the main character. I'm used to him being cleaner, if that's the right word, where everyone who dislikes or distrusts him has no basis in logic or reality. So it was interesting that this was sympathetic to the distrust of spiderman. I really liked it. Well done!

I can see what you mean by their dorky teen ~*romance*~ being hilarious and snarky and cuuuute as frickers. Oh my god. ahhhhh I'm crying, this is the best. :) Okay, so you're my favorite spiderman writer, honestly. I love all your fics, and the way you write the relationship between New York and Spiderman is amazing. You usually write a positive relationship, I think, so it's definitely interesting to see the more negative side from when Peter was just starting out. AND OH MY GOD SPIDEYTORCH IS MY OTP SO I'M SQUEALING IN JOY THAT YOU WROTE THIS, I CAN BARELY BELIEVE IT, seriously Johnny + Peter, teenage dorks in love is probably carved into my heart with a heart around it, to be truthful. :D I'm just really happy about this, okay. And the FF's distrust of Peter in the beginning is really breaking my heart, okay, especially since I can actually see it happening that way. :( Just, they're really family in the comics, okay, Peter even takes Johnny's place, when JOHNNY'S ALL LIKE HEY PETE, I GIVE YOU MY FAMILY, and then when Pete buys the Baxter Building and he's like I'M HOLDING ON TO IT UNTIL YOU GUYS CAN COME BACK and Johnny's like I'M GLAD IT'S IN THE HANDS OF FAMILY, and them as roommates and it's just... great. And you even added Peter's nerdcrush on Reed! And his love of the Avengers. :) And that Black Widow lamp, now I'm thinking of a lamp in the shape of a black widow and I want one too, dammit. Just, thank you thank you for writing this. I'm totally in favor of you writing like another 300k of spideytorch, by the way, in case you're ever out of inspiration. I'm slightly embarrassed to say that I spent several hours (ie until 2 am) binge-reading every piece you've written, and they're all amazing. I've always been a bit of a lurker, reading stories and then going on my way, but recently I've decided to make sure to leave comments, or at least kudos. You reach a great balance of scene description and dialogue with internal character thoughts, and all your story ideas are thought-out and delivered spectacularly. The bit where Johnny describes Ben throwing himself on the sofa and obliterating it was particularly hilarious to me, for some reason, even though it was like one line. Thank you for the awesome writing :)

Gaaaaah, you write some of the best fanfiction I've ever read! The past couple days I've literally gone through and read and reread all of your spiderman fics multiple times! I especially love this one and "Fitting In". I was also wondering if you're going to continue this story? I would love to see how you'd write Johnny being introduced to the Avengers. This is awesome, not sure what I was expecting but nothing this good. Little disappointed it wasn't Michael B. Jordan's Human Torch, but I guess the fandom is only so progressive.
