This is hands down one of the best fics I have ever read of ANY fandom. Wow. I was sitting on the edge of my seat by the end of this chapter, before the verdict. It is so impressive how you created such suspense and such a compelling narrative with mixed media. Thank you for this!!!!

This is, easily, one of the greatest Cap fics ever.

This is probably one of the best if not THE best fic i've ever read. It felt so real. Probably jogged an entire mile around my small living room dealing with my emotions while reading. Truly amazing.

Shit shit shit. Stories like this, public opinion, social media, outsider looking in; they're porn for me. I love seeing this. Her grandson, of course, is Michael Jones, attorney for the defense. This makes me so happy. Peggy/Jones, and their grandson is defending Sergeant Barnes in court.I'm scared though. I am scared for Buck. And for Steve, who's hanging on so tight as the Winter Soldier is dragged through the mud to the stockyards.

i have recently found that i am an absolute sucker for stories of this nature, ones that are told from and/or include to a degree outside perspectives, interviews and statements, flashes of electronic conversations, all of that. and as this fic includes all of that and is engaging and well written and making my heart break for steve and bucky to boot, i am LOVING this. looking forward to the next installment whenever it comes along :)

This is an awesome fic. Fucking brilliant formatting - I didn't even know that could be accomplished on AO3. You've clearly put a lot of time and effort into it. The only thing is that I have /no/ idea what's going on in a lot of the tweets. Who's speaking? Who the heck is the stealthmail person, and who was Nat texting to send her a picture of court? It's a great story, but the ambiguity there reduces the readability a lot. Trying to figure out what's going on without context is very frustrating. Otherwise, it's beautiful. Like, legit a work of art. Kudos to you both.

GOD THIS IS BRILLIANT. the courtroom format works so well for understating the horrific shit bucky went through and holy shit, mad kudos to you guys for the amount of work you must have put into formatting. but everything else. it's fantastic.

HOLY BUGGERING SHIT THIS IS INCREDIBLE. THE FORMATTING IS AMAZING AND I AM SUCH A SUCKER FOR THIS STYLE OF STORYTELLING. AND YOU HAVE DONE IT SO. FUCKING. WELL. GOD DAMN IT THOUGH THE PARTS DEALING WITH BUCKY'S TORTURE AND STEVE'S REACTIONS WERE HARD TO READ MAN. SO HARD. oh and i really love the ambiguity of who's who in the social media. really nicely done.

Okay, so I was gonna make comments while I read the fic, cuz you know how I like to give you a play-by-play account of my shrieking at the screen, but I couldn't because 1) I'm on my tablet so jumping into a new app to make comments would be difficult as heck and 2) I honestly could not tear myself away from the story, it was so good. I was so riveted, darlings, this is so amazing and it's not even over yet. I will tell you that my reactions were very similar to my reactions during the particularly sad/horrifying bits of the movie, ie there was a lot of me moaning "noooooooooooooo" with tears in my eyes and slightly homicidal rage at anyone in the fic who spoke out against Bucky. The usual affair when I latch onto a character and wish for their emotional happiness/health. Well done on you transparently trying to pull the heartstrings of the jury, and therefore us readers, and making it so that I don't even care that it's obvious, it still fucking hurts.Other things to note that I loved about the fic! Obviously, the layout of it. I have fond memories of the last time you did something anywhere like this and going through this was super fun. That you brought in who I'm presuming is Gabriel Jones's relative to defend Bucky. Peggy's part cuz mofoing Peggy. The email address of Tony was hilarious, so kudos to that. That Steve and Bucky are gonna be with each other to the end of the line. Everything is perfection. Now to the next chap! Which I will read and then cry at you probably because you live to hurt me with feels.

PLEASE OKAYi started reading fic like five years ago and in that time i've read thousands. out of the thousands fics i've read this in the top 10, if not top 5. i read it in public which was a mistake because i cried but so worth it. it's so painful and so real. the format is so cool and interesting and turned the story into something so much more. my mind is reeling because it's so amazing so i'm sorry that this isn't very coherent but like. this is amazing. thank you so much for writing it!!!!!!

You know, many fics can give us feels, but this one legit made me cry. The testimony of bucky's history broke my heart. And Steve's confession to Bucky. OMG IT IS TOO BEAUIFUL ;_;

Holy mother of. This is the most beautiful piece of art i have ever read in my entire life. I never thought i'd be crying fucking rivers out of reading about a trial. Sooo beautiful. Ughhhh. This is next level fan fiction. Just as the internet is changing journalism, journalism is changing fan fictions, and I love seeing stories like this emerge from to woodwork. The use of collected "sources" used to tell a story in this manner is inventive and incredible, but you have surpassed expectations with this story. It is truly phenomenal, and I can only hope you inspire others to adopt this format. Your use of AO3s ability to format the text itself was especially fantastic.

LemonScience33

This fic is incredible so far. Tony's testimony, the jury's reaction to the torture tapes, and especially Peggy's subtle insinuation that she might have known Bucky was also in love with Steve.

I've been stalking through your stories and enjoying them all, but...OH MAH GAWD this one! It is EVERYTHING that I wish "the trial of captain America" could have explored in the comics, and everything that I wanted in terms of Bucky!whump and showing people what he went through and realistic exploration of the reaction to te winter soldier and FREAKING JFK YESSSS and...The style. The courtroom. The excerpted evidence. You are a genius. I love this fic. Will definitely be reading and re-reading multiple times. Can I just rant forever about how much I love the realism? Even the little social media bits!

deeply_daydreaming

Just now

This is actually a really cool style that I never thought I would like so much. I like the fact that you make it seem as though I'm in the courtroom seeing these things and going home to read articles about the trial as well. The tweets are a nice touch as well! I've seen the movie but I've not read the comics (I'm assuming the information is mostly correct, if not, I still like it) so it's interesting to see the horrible dark things that Hydra did to Bucky because they don't really go into the morbid details of his torture in the movie. I think the jury would give him some peace since he endured these horrendous things. Guess I will find out in the next chapters! This is A+ work and I'm guessing you put a huge amount of effort and work into making the trial seem believable, so I applaud you. (most of my knowledge of how trials go about is from the show How to Get Away with Murder, but it seems legitamite to me), so great work! I'll be sure to check out your other works after this one!

Oh my God, I love this. This is wonderful and just - *squealing like the fangirl I am* I'm slowly developing this three-part series about Bucky (I've been developing it for a while now, really - I didn't realize how little I know about the former USSR and its satelite states until the plotbunny for this story of mine pitched a tent and refused to move from my head) and I still have a bunch of stuff to figure out before getting to the details of who the Winter Soldier killed and when, etc - but if I were to use this as a resource/base for what happened to the Winter Soldier during his captivity (full credits to you lot if I borrow any fanon established here, of course!) would that be okay? :) (Btw, I love how bang-on you have Fox "News"... hehe... ;D)

Absolutely stunning. Seriously, such a phenomenal read. My favorite thing to have come out of this movie is people linking MCU canon to real life and social media, and you guys did this flawlessly while incorporating equally flawless characterization and pacing. Thank you so much for writing this and for sharing it.

I can say with confidence that this is the best Marvel fanwork I have ever read. It may be the best fanwork I have ever read, but I've been reading fanfiction for a very long time, and I may have forgotten a good one. This is still probably better. You know what, I take it back. This is the best fucking fanfiction I have ever read, it's 12:30 AM and I'm crying, are you proud of yourself? Because you should be. I cannot fathom loving a fic more than I love this. I can't even put it into words, I feel like I haven't said enough, but I don't even know what to SAY. I wish I could draw, I want to draw Bucky sitting in the courtroom without his arm. AND THAT KISS. I WANT TO DRAW THE KISS. PERFECT ENDING TO A FLAWLESS STORY.

fatgeesesayhonk

Just now

Oh man, this slays me. I was confused about the defense attorney until I remembered Gabe and Peggy were together in the comics, that was a great touch. But seriously, this kills the man. Outside views, social media, people's opinions on my babies, that's my SHIT. Thank you so much for writing this, it's perfect in every way.

LittleSallyDigby

Just now

I LOVE the mixed-media format. It's very different and exciting, and you manage to lose practically nothing by reducing the story to pure dialogue with only occasional narration.Kudos on the twist with the Twitter handles. After the first round of tweets I really thought we were looking at Steve and Sharon and Sam (and... I dunno, some surviving Commando?); I didn't catch on otherwise until @flyingsolo's comment about Tony. (The talk about seeing each other in the courtroom was an excellent red herring; now I'm wondering who they really are, and why they're using those names when they have enough of a profile to get into the trial...)I love the use of public reactions and social media in addition to traditional ones. It's so cool to see this story not just from the inside perspectives of our favorite characters and their advocates and adversaries, but also from the outside ones of people like us who have no explicit stake but are super interested anyway, and this is exactly the right kind of story to give that extra attention to. @carterings sounds like, if not me, then someone I would reblog all the time with comments like "this this this".
